We often talk about how eating right, getting a good night's sleep, protecting your skin from the sun and creating a skin care regimen can help you have healthy skin. And all of this is true but there is one more way to help your skin look young and healthy. According to a study completed at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital in Scotland, individuals (both men and women) who reported having sex an average of four times per week looked approximately 10 years younger than their chronological age.
David Thompson, an assistant professor of family studies and human services at Kansas State College, in an article that appeared in the Kansas State Collegiate, explained that sex is a form of exercise, which can help keep individuals looking younger. In addition, sex, especially when it is part of a harmonious relationship, helps reduce stress, which also helps you feel better and look younger.
Dr. Gloria Bramer, a clinical sexologist, explains there are four reasons why sex can help your skin look younger and healthier :
- Improving blood circulation - Having sex can help improve blood circulation, making your skin look brighter
- Regulates hormone levels - sex helps balance hormone levels which helps in controlling
- Helps prevent dry skin -increased blood circulation helps to keep skin hydrated
- Produces collagen - having sex may encourage the production of collagen, which decreases liver, or age, spots and reduce wrinkles
Besides these direct benefits of an active sex life on your skin, sex also helps you sleep better. During an orgasm, the naturally produced chemicals oxytocin and vasopressin are released, both of which help you sleep better. Getting a good night's sleep is essential to having healthy skin and reducing the dark circles under your eyes.
