I mistakenly posted this on your skin cancer site, when I wanted it to be here. So I'm going to put it in it's proper place, not because it's any good, but it almosts fits in regard to the series you have been doing about skin cancer. Sun poisoning often leads to the other, unfortunately.
As a young person, before sun screen was a word, I spent as much life outdoors as I could and getting burned was a part of Summer; later sunburn was an expected inconvenience on the way to an admired tan. People ooohed and awed. It even held out a false hope of covering up of acne. It never worked.
Peeling skin several times was also expected, a curiosity, and no real thought given that we had just destroyed a layer of our skin. That's what people did, no voice of warning, if spoken, was ever heard. No one can say that now, everyone knows.
As with your previous advice on seeing a dermatologist yearly, I have taken it and will see one in August for a checkup. I appreciate these articles you are writing.
