We have been talking about psoriasis here lately on My Skin Care Connection as it is a chronic skin condition affecting as many as 7.5 million Americans and 125 million people worldwide (source: National Psoriasis Foundation). In a previous post I had the honor of interviewing Doctor Lawrence Green...

I wish parents, nurses, doctors, people with Psoriasis, would open up more about this subject and talk about it. Seems the way it has been done, not with just Psoriasis but with many disorders, just doesn't bring these subjects out in schools where the first, or often first, socializing process begins.
I know how peers can tease unmercifully, confronting them with facts instead of pretending not to see something, seems a better way to go in helping afflicted students. I think explaining what is happening, why, and and that there is no cure, so far, can take the fear factor away from classmates, and might even generate empathy.
Even articles like this help. Until reading here, I did not understand what Psoriasis is. If there are parents who have been through this and have even found ways to minimize their child's discomfort, I hope they write here. It has to help someone just starting.
