All About Summer Makeup

I don't like wearing a lot of makeup in the summer, but I don't want to be bare-faced, either. What are some products I can use that I can just slap on without putting on too much?

As the temperatures rise, it's no wonder that many women choose to avoid their daily makeup routine. Most cosmetics tend to feel heavy and waxy when the sun beats down and the humidity goes up.

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean all of us are lucky enough to be able to go without. Whether your job requires you to look polished or you just don't want to expose your undereye circles to the light of day, you can still stay cool while putting your best face forward.

For hot days, ditch cream and liquid foundations. These cosmetics often slide around on the surface of the skin and can easily rub off as you sweat. Instead, stick with a lightweight tinted moisturizer. Pick one that's oil-free with an SPF of at least 15. Some classic options with a range of shades are Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Oil-Free and Smashbox Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer.

After allowing the moisturizer to sink in, apply and blend a dab of gel blush to the apples of the cheeks. Tarte Cheek Stain comes in nine sheer shades and is free of both alcohol and oil. DuWop's Blush Therapy and Vincent Longo's Hydro Stick are two light formulas that deliver translucent color with a cooling sensation.

For eye color, avoid powders that can get cakey in humid weather. Instead, stick with light, shimmery shadows in creamier formulas. In addition, unless you're attending a big event, avoid bright colors and go for muted, earthy tones that will stay true to your subtle look. Clinique's Quick Eyes Cream Shadow comes in an array of lustrous colors that will keep your eyes bright without looking overdone. Nars Duo Cream Eyeshadows goes on as a lightweight cream and dries to a powdery finish, but stays translucent throughout.

Although mascara may not be the easiest thing to deal with as the mercury rises, thick black lashes can frame the eyes so no waxy eyeliner is necessary. Stick with waterproof formulas that are designed not to clump. Lancome's Definicils Mascara is a popular lengthening mascara that now comes in a waterproof formula. If you dislike the idea of having to reapply mascara, try Tarte's 4 Day Stay Lash Stain. This ultra-waterproof product is designed to stay on for four days without fading or flaking.

Finally, finish off with a sheer lip gloss. Avoid anything with a sticky, tacky texture that may prove irritating when the sun gets hot. Cover Girl's LipSlicks Hint of Color is an affordable option that offers a tiny bit of color without feeling heavy. Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect is formulated to glide on smoothly without feeling sticky. Lastly, Benefit Cosmetics' popular Benetint is available in lip gloss and lip balm formulations. The Benetint Pocket Pal is a double-ended tube with lip stain on one side and a clear gloss on the other. Benetint Lip Balm will give you that same sheer berry stain in a vitamin E-infused formula.
