Update - Sores on Scalp

By Itchy in Delaware Wednesday, April 21, 2010

SO i went to Dermotologist today and apparently I have ACUTE ONSET OF ADULT EXCEMA on my legs, neck and scalp .. now the scalp area has been itched till it has become infected and I now have FOLICULITIS .. I have never had excema in my life as a child or adult .. so i'm a bit confused as to how I "just got it" but i am happy to have found a diagnosis for 4 months of rashes and horrible itching that will not go away and that normal dr's didn't have a clue ..

I have special creams, anti-itch pills, special shampoo and I hope to have this resolved in 2 to 3 weeks before it gets too hot b/c the hotter it got the worse i itched...   just wanted to let everyone know in case there was anyone out there dealing with it.

I have had an itchy/scaly foot & scalp (started on my foot) for 7 months and have seen two dermatologist in Delaware with no relief. One doctor diagnosed psoriasis, the other eczema. After trying just about everything, I healed my foot on my own by scraping it several times a week with a Ped Egg and then applying Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Foot Therapy Cream (in the white tube) daily.  My primary care physcian just prescribed Ciclopirox shampoo for my scalp which can only be used twice a week, so I have not seen any improvement in my scalp as of yet. This is insane. I am currently in the market for a new dermatolgist, so if you are happy with your derm, please could you share their name with me. Thanks!

I love my derm .. it is the Center for Dermotology - Dr. Waitsrait (sp) .. and he gave me cream for leg and samples that my insurance wouldn't cover - he also gave me a shampoo that he told me to use every single day ..pharmacy had to order it so i just picked up the shampoo yesterday so i will let you know the result of the issues in my head, but my legs are drying up and don't itch half as much .. they still don't look too great b/c of the bumps, but its going away ..

his number is 302-541-0212 ... GOOD LUCK ...

Hi there

I am so glad that you came back to tell us what your doctor said.  Many people come here to ask a question but never report back about what their symptoms meant.

If you haven't already...you might want to read my article about Adult Eczema.  The thing is...you can definitely get it under control and manage it...but for many...it does become a chronic skin condition.  So the best thing is to find ways to cope with it and decrease flare ups.

I would strongly advise too...that you go to an allergist as well.  My son has eczema and...one of the culprits for eczema may be food allergy.  You may want to visit our food allergy site on Health Central for more information.

Thank you again for writing and...please do keep us updated as to how you manage your eczema in the weeks and months to come.
