Acne vulgaris, pimples, dots, spots, commedones, are changes on the skin that are very characteristic after puberty in the adolescense. Around 90% of all teenagers are affected by it more or less. Acne are changes in skin tissue (sebaceal glands and hair follicles) under the effect of male sex hormones. Both genders are affected by it. In males, testicular tissue in development produces increased levels of testosteron and other adrogen hormones. Females, on the other hand, have to blame their adrenal glands.

Acne vulgaris are typically localized on the face and on the upper torso. They can be in ther non inflammatory form as commedones, or inflammated in form of pustules, or even nodes. Inflamatory forms require more aggressive treatment, are more severe and can leave scars.

Adolescense is the period of psychological crisis while individual transforms from puberty to an adult and acne can leave a deep impact.
