A recent discovery about how to maintain good skin may surprise you. Our body makes its own form of cannabis (that's right, formal name for pot), similar to THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, and it may play an important role in maintaining healthy skin. This important finding may help researchers create new drugs that can help with everything from acne to dry skin to skin-related tumors.
The actual study and related information is due to be released in an October issue of the FASEB Journal. Researchers hope that with this new information, a cream with this active ingredient can be used to treat a variety of skin issues. One thing researchers know is that THC probably also protects the marijuana plant from pathogens, and they are now assuming that these endocannabinoids help our skin stay healthy AND protect it from pathogens as well.
So don't be surprised if down the road we see a cream on the market with a cute slogan like "a pot of pot for your skin."
