Another Explanation for Atopic Dermatitis

Ok - this was truly new to me - and maybe that's because experts have just recently figured out this new association.  Apparently if you suffer from serious atopic dermatitis, meaning skin reactions to "some causative agent" and they are serious enough for hospitalization - the agent causing the severe skin reaction may be a pollen-associated food allergy- especially if you also typically suffer from allergic rhinitis (associated with pollen allergies).  So these pollen-associated foods seem to cause a serious and severe skin rash.

So what are the pollen - associated foods most frequently implicated in this skin reaction?

  • Hazelnuts
  • Raw apples
  • Almonds
  • Walnuts
  • Carrots

Sometimes it can take a "detective" to figure out what is causing a serious skin reaction.  Researchers have now added this new study to the list of possible causes of skin reactions.
