Child with boils and bumps

By katiecakes Wednesday, June 16, 2010

My child is 3 years old, and she has been getting boils on her bottom. She recently had one on the back of her leg. I put neosporn and a bandaid on it for a couple days and it popped so i kept the wound clean with peroxide. Now that the boil is gone she has a whole bunch of little red bumps around the already healed boil? What could this be? irritation from the banaid? she has never had anything happen with neosporn or peroxide please help!

Hi there

So sorry I had not responded to this post...I did not see it until now.

Please know that I am not a doctor.

Have the boils cleared up yet?  If this is a chronic skin problem I would take her to see the doctor as an antibiotic may be needed.  Some people do develop an allergy to neosporin but only a doctor is going to know if that is what is happening.

You want to keep the area dry and clean.

Here is some more information about boils in children from Children's Hospital, Boston.

I hope this helps some and if your child develops a fever in addition to the boils...definitely take her to the pediatrician if you have not done so already.
