Q: Clusters of little red bumps on my arms from my elbow done that pop up when Im out in the sun.

Two years ago I had my daughter...Ever since then, every summer when I go out for an extended period of time I get these clusters of red bumps that look like hives and are incredibly itchy. If I don't go out in the sun for too long they dry up and go away, but as soon as I go out and spend at least an hour in the sun they come back. Can anyone help me with this?

Hi there

Please know that I am not a doctor but what you are describing sounds a lot like heat rash to me.  It seems a common happening right now as it is so hot and humid in so many geographic areas.

Here is some information about heat rash from The Mayo Clinic.  I would try to limit your time in the sun and always use protection as in a good sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more.  It seems that you are more sensitive to the sun now.

If you are worried about this rash you can always consult with your doctor.  In the meantime calamine lotion may help with the itching.

Thank you for your question.

Hi there...I was just dx'd with Polymorpheous Light Eruption.  Im 36 and never had an issue with being outside.  But, Im pregnant with my number 3 and as it turns out Im having a girl, too.  This will be my first.  All of a sudden I broke out in hives and little clusters of bumps all over my chest, arms and face.  It was horrible, I swelled up and the itch was unbearable.  I went to the doctor and they basically call it a sun allergy.  Only treatment...Sunscreen, wide rimmed hats and coming out only after 7...sigh.  they tell me this will get better the more expose myself to the sun...in increments of course.  It sucks, because my boys want to to go the park and stuff..but mommy cant be in the sun like that.  Jergens Ultra Healing lotion and hydrocortizone cream seem to work the best for me.  Best of luck...Im a praying woman and i will be praying this thing off of us!
