Q: Dark spots (scars) from mosquito bites and sores.

Is there any way to lighten or make disappear the dark spots that are left on my daughters skin

from insect bites or scraps and such?  She is caucasian with an olive complexion.

People with more melanin in their skin do have to deal with skin discoloration after scarring. You can try a lightening product such as Murad Age Spot & Pigment Lightening Gel. It contains hydroquinone, which has been shown to lighten hyperpigmentation, as well as glycolic acid, which helps exfoliate skin. Using these kinds of lightening products won't cause miraculous fading, but it does seem to help in terms of fading the intensity of dark spots. Keeping her out of the sun will also help prevent the spots from getting darker.

natural skin remedies like Shea butter, lemon juice, lavender oil, or aloe vera gel works wonders without the harsh effects of bleaching agents like hydroquinone, which is a "suspected carcinogen and probable neurotixin and skin sensitizer. Hydroquinone can also cause a skin disease called ochronosis, which leaves irreversible black-blue lesions on the skin. This bleaching agent is found in some skin-lightening products and moisturizers."

vitamin c works well but you have to use something made with stable vitamin c because a lot of these products break down and become useless after you open the tube. If it turns brown it's gone off.

Licorice also lightens dark scar and brown spots.
