Are propylene glycol, SD alcohol, and emulsifying wax in skin care safe?
I've read an article by Sue Chung in which Peter Thomas Roth's Brigthening Gel was recommended. I was curious so I picked up this product along with the Sheer All Day Moisturizing Lotion and the Glycolic Acid 10% Moisturizer. After reading the ingredients, I noticed the Brightening Gel contains SD alcohol. Some sites suggested to stay away from SD alcohol as it is one of the harmful ingredients to avoid. The Sheer All Day Moisturizing Lotion contains propylene glycol and according to a few sites, this ingredient is used in antifreeze. Lastly, the Glycolic Acid 10% Moisturizer contains emulsifying wax and after looking it up in wikipedia, this is what it says "Emulsifying wax is created when a wax material (either a vegetable wax of some kind or a petroleum-based wax) is treated with a detergent (typically sodium dodecyl sulfate or polysorbates) to cause it to make oil and water bind together into a smooth emulsion." So does this mean emulsifying wax has detergent in it? I often see this ingredient in "natural" or organic brands e.g. Avalon Organics. Is emulsifying wax safe?
many "natural" and "organic" companies are not all natural. The term "natural" is open to debate. Emulsifying wax is a combination of stearic acid and a detergent so its not natural but its also not dangerous.
