Q: Has anyone heard of an itchy rash only affecting Vitiligo areas?

I have had Vitiligo for 25 years, over that time it has started to go away. I am now left with minimal whiit spots on my hands, legs and feet. Recently I have noticed a red, itchy, bumpy rash JUST on the Vitiligo. No part of the rash ventured out to the tan areas of my skin. Has anyone heard of this? I can't seem to find any info in cyberspace. Please help.

I also have this!  Just googling and can't find anything on it!

It sounds exactly the same, only on my vitiligo and a raised red bumpy rash, it's very strange.  I was quite concerned because my mum has been diagnosed with swine flu so I called my doctor who said as long as there was no fever, I was fine but he was also quite puzzled as to why it's just on my vitiligo.

I have had it a few times before and I have a feeling it's connection to allergies, as I also suffer from pet/dairy allergies and it seems to come up when I overdo it on cuddling my cats or have something containing dairy.

Hopefully somebody will have the answer!

I have been asking everyone, including doctors at the Mayo Clinic. I got nothing but confussion. I went there and was evaluated for Multiple Sclerosis. Everything was ruled out EXCEPT MS. I am currently working on a diagnosis with my local Dr... MS is an autoimmune disorder, so is Vitiligo. Obviously my immune system is acting up. I have decided it has to be something with my immune system since it only affected the Vitiligo. Weird. You are the only person to respond to this and obviously it is not a common thing. Good luck and if you find ANYTHING relating to this please let me know. PS...After trying everything I could get my hands on to make this rash go away I finally found something. It was a prescription cream of my dads called Clobetasol Propionate cream 0.05 %. It cleared it up and it did not come back! I also showed this to the Dr. and she did not understand what was wrong or why this cream worked but it did.

Good Luck!

I have had a rash around my feet and ankles for 4 months.  At first I thought they could be ant bites, but after these many months, it is still there...mainly red with a little scaling on a few on the top.  After a bath, they seem more distinct.  The rash is only in the vitiligo areas; any other solutions from anyone else?  It does not really itch.

I have had vitiligo most of my life... The last few years when the white stripe down my leg gets sunburned I get the rash only in the white area. It started only small on one spot of it but this last week it has broken out every day after being out in the sun!

hi all, i have this at the moment and it is strange. trying to determine if it's a sun-related thing or alergic reaction to something (but exactly the same symptoms as described by everyone else). Rash is just presenting on my hands and i have vitiligo patches elsewhere that are unaffected.

Would love to know what it is, if anyone finds out post it here!

I can sunburn my whole white spot on my leg but it is only the top part right next to my knee that gets the really itchy rash! It is wierd! I have no idea why it does it!!

I get the rash too.  I have it right now, and the itching is about to drive me insane.  I've had vitiligo for about 15 years, give-or-take, and the first rash episode was early in the diagnosis.  And it was miserable.  It finally went away and I've only had small outbreaks in the interim time.  Now, however, it is back with a vengeance.  I figure it HAS to be related to the auto-immunity of vitiligo, but I can't seem to confabulate a decent explanation.  So, until a researcher out there cares enough to look into it, I guess I'll just keep scratching.    At least now I know I'm not the only one.  :)

I've had vitiligo since I was a teenager and I'm 52 now. The main problem I have is that my hands, which are always exposed to the sun, are the worst area affected. I said to my GP once that I thought that the red itchy rashes I had on my hands were related to my vitiligo but he said he doubted it.  Currently my left hand is "normal", but my right hand has a bright red itchy inflammed rash on it, which will go a purple colour as it fades.  It's strange that only one hand is affected.  I'm currently putting some antihistamine cream on it, but it's not getting much better.  Like you, I keep hoping that there will be a cure one day, but because it's not life threatening, it's not too much of priority.  Best wishes :-)

hi im a 32 year old mae and have had vitiligo for about 17 years, they started as small white spots on the back of my knees, they nevr grew, sometimes they are small and some bigger but they never grow beyon the same place, recently (about 2years ago) i got a new white spot on my left foot, this spot has been growing and spreading on my foot rather quickly, this past few weeks i was exposed to the sun and now on one part of the white patch i got an ich and i noticed its reddish and like a rash it has small bumps. If anyone comes up with information i will be very appreciated it thank you, and another question is if all these herbal sites for vitiligo really work, if anyone has tried it please let us know.

I have had vitiligo for about 30 years and only in the last few years has this been happening to me.  I have a few spots on my hands right now that are consumed by a red, raised rash - it's actually a bit painful - but only on the vitiligo patches.  I know the Dr will just prescribe a cream - I want to know why it's happening though!!
