Hi there

This is an excellent question that I have wondered myself.

I have used Prevention magazine for this purpose and this is how I found some good products.  Each year they ask women to try various products and also have a team of dermatologists check the women's skin to choose the "best" anti-aging products.  Here is information on Defy Your Age Beauty Awards for 2011.

From past recommendations I have tried products such as Skin Effects Cell 2 Cell cream and StriVectin-SD among others.  Please note that I have no ties to any of the companies which market these products.  Also note that what works for one person may not work for another.  The StriVectin-SD cream is probably the best I have tried for smile lines.  It seems to work very quickly and is noticeable.

One prescription product I use for my acne but which I find to also helps my skin from aging is Tazorac cream.

Hope this helps some.  The bottom line is that you have to try products on your own to see if they work or not.  I would also recommend that you ask your dermatologist about what he or she suggests based on your unique skin type.

Thank you for your question.

hey there..  I appreciate you writing but unfortunately I have read Prevention before and am not impressed with them..

I did look at the article you mentioned and as a woman AND a Masters educated Health Educator, I still believe that there could be better information about one of the over the counter ways to approach the whole problem.  That article mentioned different products for each, and not the same manufacturer for any.  That does not make any sense.  If a specific manufacturer is the 'best' in a certain category, it seems to me that they would be there in other categories as well.  Are you able to understand me...  seems as if I may be rambling.  Many thanks for your input..

Hello

Well hey we are all in this boat together.  It is difficult to find the best products for anti-aging.

When you say "...there should be better information about one of the over the counter ways to approach the whole problem" what do you mean by "the whole problem"?  Do you mean skin aging or...more than this?

It seems reasonable to me that a manufacturer would be rated differently on their various products.  It would be great if you could find one brand that worked for everything.  And some people do.  Subjectivity does come into play here as well as...your unique skin type.  What works for one person to decrease the signs of aging may not be as effective for someone else who has a different skin type.

I can tell you what personally works for me but I can't say that any one brand is better than another because I don't know what is best for you or any other member.

We do have a lot of other articles on anti-aging procedures mainly performed by dermatologists:

Dermatologist Tips on Slowing Down the Aging Process

I know it is frustrating.  I wish there was a definitive answer to your question.  One resource I would suggest is to ask your dermatologist.

Thanks so much for question.  If you do find a product that works well for you let us know about it.

That is actually not what I mean for me-- that is the 'whole problem'.  And I'm looking to find out if one of the brands:  i.e. Olay, L'Oreal, Noxema, has actually had the most positive feedback from women and dermatologists alike!

I have normal skin, am 53 and live in Florida; I also smoke.  I am trying to find something for anti-aging on my face, eyes and lips...  so I can look like Jennifer Aniston LOL---

I would like to just like to maintain my skin, since I already look younger than my age.   Thanks again for your input.

Hey again

Well this is a good question indeed.  I just don't know if everyone is going to agree on one brand.  Even among dermatologists...there will be disagreements.

No doubt that Jennifer Aniston is looking good but as you point out...so do you.  I think we see these images of beauty in the media but...the stars have a lot of help that most folks don't receive or can afford to receive. And there can be only one Jennifer Aniston.  Just as there can only be one of you.  It sounds like a cliche but so true that everyone is special and unique.  People with wrinkles can be beautiful too.  We all get older...this is simply a fact of life.

Honestly...the best thing you can do for your skin is to stay out of the sun and tanning beds.  This is what accelerates the aging process more than anything.  And smoking probably doesn't help either.

I was curious to see what products this celebrity uses.  According to one report she uses neutrogena soap.

Here is another report on what products she may use:

Jen does rely heavily on nature for her skin care regimen, favoring Dr. Hauschka and Jurlique products, both brands known for their natural, organic and botanical ingredients. Her skin is flawless, and she is typically spotted wearing very little to no make-up, so clearly these products work for her.

She also told Bazaar Magazine in 2006 that she uses Neutrogena bar soap to wash her face.

Yet regardless...I think that there are no guarantees whatsoever that any particular skin program or brand is going to be the best for your skin. It is a lot of trial and error to see what is effective.

I wish you the best of luck.  Let us know what you find in your search for the best anti-aging products.

My sister and I are trying different products and have found that the most reliable are from Avon...believe it or not.  However, she is 11 months younger than me, but look 10 years older.  We are in our 60's+ and yes we still care about our looks.  We live in the same area, have similar stresses and close to the same diets and are both thin and loved tanning beds in our younger years.  The ony difference is that she has smoked since the age of 15 yrs and while I have never smoked.  She and I both agree that it was the smoking that did the most age damaging to our skin.  My mother and her 3 yr older sister had the same background as us.  But mother, a smoker, looked 20 years older than her non-smoking sister.  Hell, my aunt has less wrinkles than me. The difference between my aunt and I was that she was dutiful in her skin care.....always!  Since she was a teen-ager.
