Q: Painful, tiny bumps in clusters on my body

Hello,

I'm 19, living in the dorms, and I'm about to finish my first year of college.

I've been on Accutane for the last 6 months, and I have another 2 months to go, due to an early complication and a lower dosage. However, in the last two months, I've been on Accutane for the last 6 months, and I have another 2 months to go, due to an early complication and a lower dosage. However, in the last two months, I've been getting these annoying, painful bumps along my sides, along my chest, and along my waistline. They are tiny, usually pencil-eraser size, and they do hurt to the touch. My dermatologist says that it isn't acne, and I don't think they're bed bug bites (but I DO live in a college dormitory lol) The bumps usually appear in groups of 10 or 12, and they're horribly embarrassing!

I actually think that they're bumps from my clothing, because where my jeans hit = where I have a big painful bump like I described. So, I try and change my routine every so often. I'm washing my sheets every week, I'm getting out of my sweaty workout clothes as soon as possible, I'm washing after my workouts, and I'm putting cornstarch (baby powder stuff) all over my sides and the bumps. This helps reduce the size and pain, and they also disappear sooner. But they still keep coming back--and I don't know what to do!

Is it still bedbugs and I just need to do a better job of cleaning? Is it bumps from skin-clothes-contact, and if so, what can i do?? Please and thank you!

I've never had this problem, even when living at home where the sheets were washed maybe once a month and we had cats, dogs, a ferret, and a horse...

Hi there

This is a mystery!

Please know that I am not a doctor or a dermatologist.  So your doctor did not give any suggestions of what these bumps could be?  Are you allergic to anything?  I am wondering if their location on your body could provide some clues.  Are you using any new lotions, detergents, soaps...anything?

Are the bumps in a line?  I am wondering about the potential for these to be bed bug bites?  There has been a great resurgence lately and especially in dorms.

What treatments have you tried?

I think your best bet is to seek out a doctor who can properly diagnose this.  Write down any clues...so they have as much to go on as possible.

I am so sorry you are going through this...I know it must be hard to deal with these skin issues and not know the cause.

Let us know if you find out what is causing your rash.  Thank you for your question.
