Thursday, July 21, 2011 Mom of 6 asks

Q: My 11 yr old daughter has spots UNDER her skin, so they're not hives. They started on her abdomen but are now everywhere.

She doesn't have any other symptoms: no sore throat, itchy skin, watery eyes, sneezing, NOTHING.  Last week doctor just said it looked like an alergic reaction of some kind, to give her Benadryl every few hours and come back if she did develop any other symptoms.  We were away from home for 3 days and had forgotten the Benadryl, and now the spots are quite thick. We'll be diligent to make sure she gets it now, but I'm still concerned, and wish I had a clue what we're dealing with.  It has been at least 2 weeks since we noticed them.

Hi there

Spots under her skin?  Are they bothering her?  If the doctor suspects an allergy I would maybe take her to see an allergist especially if this is a chronic issue and it is not going away.  Does anyone else in the family have food allergies or any other type of allergy?  I would be concerned about her taking Benadryl so often...it must make her sleepy.

I would get a second opinion and also see an allergist to know what you are dealing with.

Thank you for your question.
