Hello there
I too noticed when my teen-age sons hit a certain age that they were...um...more ripe smelling. It is interesting that you say your son smells like metal.
Here is a Biology News article about this very topic, "A Metallic Smell is just Body Odour."
In researching this I found a forum where the person who was smelling metal when he sweated discovered the cause for him. It was his alpha hydroxyl lotion he was using.
Is your son using any lotions, medications, anything to cause this?
I honestly think this is one of those unsolved mysteries. Perhaps you can ask his doctor about this.

I had not heard of this link before but if you wish to investigate further here is the link to our Diabetes site. You might want to ask there to see what they have to say and also mention this to the doctor to get their point of view.
