Dear Eva,   Doryx, which is a brand of doxycycline pills, is generally well tolerated, though chest pain is a documented side effect for some patients. The chest pain could be due to angioedema, an allergic type of reaction which can also cause swelling of the face, lips, tongue and throat. Inflammation or ulceration of the esophagus or stomach cann also cause chest pain, which may have a burning quality. I recommend that you stop the Doryx and consult the physician who prescribed it as soon as possible for further evaluation.   Hope this helps,     Dr. Hema Sundaram
