Q: i have an itchy patch on my scalp

i have an itchy patch on my scalp, the area starts at about 1/2 inch but expands to 1.5" diameter after few days, it swells and gets tender and looks like a bunch/clusters of white puss balls overgrowing each other. after I scratch them it turns scabby but after a day puss balls form under and around the scab and this tender area gets bigger and bigger to 1.5" in diameter. this goes on for a week or 2, it eventually goes away. but then comes back in few months.this is the 3rd time its reocurred this year. I thought it was a spider bite, but after it came back in the exact same spot for the 3rd time, I realized its something else..Can anyone help? I dont have a deramtologist and really cannot afford professional help/doctor right now.

Hi Rik

Please know I am not a doctor.  I am just researching your question and it could be anything from an infection from scratching, some form of eczema or Seborrheic Dermatitis.  or even sebaceous cysts (pimples). A similar question was asked on a health board and there are some interesting answers given there for treatment.

I would definitely try to not scratch them as it probably is making it worse.

Your best bet is to see a doctor or dermatologist.

Here is how to seek free or reduced cost treatment:

The Partnership for Prescription Assistance has a Free Clinic Finder if you type in your zipcode you will find clinics in your area.

And the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources also has a listing of free clinics in your area. All you have to do is plug in your geographic location.

I hope this helps some!  Thank you for your question.
