The Answer (for me at least). I read, with great interest, all the accounts above about 3 weeks ago. I had presented with a similar itch on my forearms and shins which developed into an under skin kind of rash. Also, at night it was driving me crazy. I knew it wasn't scabies as I had had that in my college days and although scabies was 'itchier', it doesn't produce any kind of rash (maybe some tiny spots on the wrists).   Anyway, I picked up some tips from the reports above, including the Splenda comments. I thought back to the last 4 months (about how long I've had this itch) and the only real change to my diet was in what I ate for breakfast.   After watching a documentary regarding the ingredients of some cereals, I changed from Bran Flakes to Weetabix (thinking it was healthier). So, my first option was to stop eating Weetabix and hey presto, about a week later, all the itching (and rash of course) was gone...and has stayed gone.   Although not a scientific experiment, it is enough to convince me not to go crazy eating wheat. I must state that we, in Ireland, had some really cold weather over the Christmas period and the itch seemed to get worse. This leads me to suspect that there is some connection between wheat allergy and temperature (possibly temperature changes?).   Anyway, I've stopped eating Weetabix and which means that I don't need to lift my trouser ends to scratch my calves while watching TV!! Ah, happiness!   Hope this helps someone else.
