I used a soap that had Vaseline and then my nose reacted terribly. Why?

I recently used some soap on my face called Lever 2000 with Vaseline intensive care.  My nose soon became extremely red and sore.  The redness has turned into a sore that is scabbed over.  Why did this happen.  Is the soap the cause?  I have stopped using it.
