Parents of a newborn may be unsure of the best bathing technique and skin care regimen for their child. Here are tips from an article published in the International Journal of Dermatology.

Newborns need this time for their body temperature and cardiorespiratory status to stabilize. It’s not necessary to give your baby a bath every day, in fact, bathing every other day is best to keep their skin clean.

Submerging the rest of the body into a few inches of warm water can help the baby retain heat. Make sure the water temperature is below 120 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent scalding.

If a baby has soiled the diaper make sure to change it as soon as possible. Cleanse the area with tap water and a soft cloth. If you only have baby wipes, use one without lanolin or alcohol, and preferably hypoallergenic. Let the area air dry sometimes to protect the skin from getting irritated.
