Reclast may block steroid-induced bone loss

Patients who take steroids to control symptoms of asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune diseases may be helped by a yearly injection of the bone drug Reclast. A new study found that the injection was more effective in stopping and reversing bone loss caused by glucocorticoid drugs than the bisphosphonate Actonel. The study, which was funded by Reclast drugmaker Novartis, also found that both drugs were effective in lowering the risk of steroid-related fractures.  Read full story >
