More than half of the psoriasis patients in a new study tested positive for the human herpes virus 8 (HHV-8), a finding that suggests the virus may play a role in the development of the disease. Scientists in Tunisia found that the prevalence of the virus was four times higher in people with psoriasis than in people without the condition of the same age. The HHV-8 virus has already been linked to a number of other diseases, including Kaposi sarcoma and body cavity-based B-cell lymphoma.
