Chickenpox Exposure May Help Prevent Against Dermatitis, Asthma

Children who get chicken pox may be less likely to develop allergic dermatitis and asthma later in life, a new study suggests. Researchers studied the records of 700 children and found that those who'd had chickenpox early were significantly less likely to develop atopic dermatitis and asthma later in life. The study's authors say that the chickenpox vaccine has been shown to reduce hospitalizations and deaths from the common disorder, but they believe many experts haven't taken into account the possible long-term benefits of exposure to the virus.
