The Botox is injected into the masseter muscle, the dose is about 20 units per muscle. It does not interfere with chewing, smiling or anything else, because it is a relatively small dose, but big enough to stop the cycle of bruxism. It doesn't hurt. It is not covered by insurance usually, but you never know - submitting a claim is always a good idea.
The price usually winds up being about $400 to $500 and the effect lasts for 3 to 4 months. You may not need to do it more than a few times to break your body of the habit of bruxism. I've treated about 100 patients so far, and the results are always fantastic.
