No Really, Coffee Isn't Good For You

The Coffee Habit Do you, like hundreds of people all over the world, drag yourself out of bed in the morning and stagger into the kitchen for the first cup of coffee? This habit might be hiding the real problem - a lack of sleep caused by a common sleep disorder. A study, led by Dr Joshua ...

Hi Florence and thanks for this post.

As coffee one of my true loves, I am curious about how long the effects of a cup of coffee last.  I guess it depends on the person - age, weight, height, food consumption - but what is the average?  And I guess the follow up would be can I expect that to double and triple the more coffee I drink?

Thanks much.

All the Best, Sue (aka SMM)

I have been told by my doctor (i've have sleep issues so it came up a few times) that the effects of caffine can keep you awake up to 6 hours after drinking it, so i couldn't drink any after 4pm if i wanted to be in bed by 10:30

Nowhere in this article does it say why caffeine is bad for you. Yes, sleep deprivation is bad, but that is another issue. Simply stating that caffeine is a drug does not prove the argument that it is bad for you. I want empirical evidence that caffeine is linked to health risks. Any thoughts on the antioxidants in coffee? Just because a molecule can cross the blood brain barrier and be psychoactive does not automatically make it harmful. You can't just lump caffeine in with methamphetamine as a "drug" and say they are both bad.

"These errors are caused by the disorientation and irritable headaches of something called coffee nerves."

Where is the evidence for this? How about a scientific study instead of your personal speculations? Furthermore, this is a symptom of caffeine withdrawal. While your performance is being improved by caffeine you would not experience caffeine withdrawal at the same time to cause errors.

Please write something substantial.

Sincerely,

Concerned reader
