By Allen Blaivas, M.D., Health Pro Thursday, January 17, 2008
Let's continue talking about obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). We already discussed some of the symptoms and signs, as well as the significance of untreated OSA and the related diseases such as stroke, heart attack, and diabetes.  Today we will focus on the polysomnogram (PSG), the test used to...

Thanks doctor for this important information.

I certainly hope people out there pay attention to the disorder and try to do what they can to get and stay healthy - for their sleep's sake!

All the best, sue

I just want to say that as a new patient of yours, your initial consult was informative and insightful. I feel that I finally am close to figuring out what has been a long term problem for me. Thank you!

I had my first follow up polysomnogram in 5 years just over a week ago, and I will be visiting the sleep doctor this week for his determination of the next steps. However, I was in the hospital for non-related surgery last week, and the night doctor doing rounds was my sleep doctor. He brought me a copy of my polysomnogram test results, but I really don't have much of a clue as to what the results mean, and the different numbers and their significance to my sleep apnea. I have lost 31 lbs and inches in just over a year and a half. The polysomnogram was supposed to be a 'split study', using my mask for the second half, but the technician who administered the study said I did not meet the criteria for the mask after the first half, so they didn't use it.

I THINK that is good news, but it would be nice to know just what all those figures and results mean. I have not been able to find any online resources to tell me just what all those numbers mean, and didn't find anything on this site either. Any tips on interpreting results?
