I’d like to continue on the topic of obstructive sleep apnea
(OSA) in children.
As we mentioned OSA is the repetitive stopping of breathing
due to an obstruction in the child’s airway. OSA can occur in children of all ages, but is probably more common in
pre-school child...

I just happened to find this and am not sure where or how to post a question so I will try this.
My 3 year old son has just been diagnosed with severe OSA. He has a history of dilated cardiomyopathy, G.I. problems, photophobia, and asthma. What I am trying to find out is what kind of setback or problems could he have with his heart issues because of the severe OSA? He goes to see his cardiologist next week. I'm just finding it really hard to find info online that will answer my questions.
Hi Katie,
If you check out HealthGal's most recent blog, she talks about OSA treatment options for children.
Dr. Blaivas also addresses the issues of OSA in an older entry and mentions medical complications that can occur...including heart and blood pressure issues.
Your cardiologist will help you to understand what OSA means for your son inparticular, but in the meantime you can go to MySleepCentral.com to find more information on OSA in general. Keep us posted with updates or more questions!
Good luck with the appointment,
Sofia
