I am getting very tired everyday at about 2pm - 3pm. It comes on very suddenly. When it happens I need to sleep right now! After a half hour nap I am fine.
I do have sleep apnea, however I think that I am getting a full night sleep. I do use a cpap machine and it works quite well.
I began having this trouble right after I have the right side of my thiroid removed. At that point I thought that it might be an after effect from the anaesthesia.
It has not happen for about a year and now has suddenly returned. My doctor is beginning to check it out.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hello and thank you for your SharePost. You mid-day sleepiness may be linked to other health conditions (sleep apnea, thyroid removal - good that your doctor is looking into these things), but it could also be as simple as something many of us experience: being sleepy after lunch.
It's common that eating a heavy lunch can bring this on. A lunch loaded with carbohydrates can flood your body with insulin, causing you to have a drop in energy and excessive sleepiness afterwards. Processed sugars, those found in cakes, cookies, pastries, etc., can have the same effect once your brief "sugar high" wears off. Some proteins, such as turkey, have substances that can cause you to feel more drowsy after a meal. Overloading on caffeine also isn't the answer. Just like processed sugars, caffeine (such as in coffee, tea and cola) can bring on a drop in energy after their immediate energy boost.Try your best to keep your lunch light, low on carbs and rich in fruits and vegetables.
This is just one idea of how you can try to combat your mid-day nap urge. Best of luck to you.
Maria,
Thank you for your sujestions. However I am fairly knowledgeable regarding foods and thier effects on the body. I own a grocery store and I am a diabetic. I have attend may food classes at the Kaiser Hospital for nutrition and diabetes classes.
I am careful about my eating habits. I don't believe that the lunch is the issue. It does not always happen right after lunch.
Again Thanks for your thoughts.
Dan
