CPAP - 1, Leah - O

It was a knockout! The CPAP had won. But it was only a temporary victory... For whatever reason, I had the worse night yet in my fight to conquer the CPAP. My husband had to turn on the light twice--and get up to help me... At first, I was totally unable to get the nasal pillow to fit correctly. In the dark, I tried to adjust the straps--NOT a good idea, as I found out. When the light was turned on, we...

CPAP Conquered

Party time! Start the parade! It has taken me three weeks, but I have conquered the CPAP! Part of my problem was getting the right fit with my nasal pillow. The respiratory therapist who had trained me to use the machine recommended that I use the "petite" nasal pillow, even though the technician who had administered the sleep test had recommended the "Medium" size. (Luckily, my particular CPAP...

Challenging the CPAP

Leah here. I have had my CPAP since February 14th. It has been a more pleasant experience since I washed the headgear and disinfected it. The headgear is now a little softer and more comfortable. I am able to get some sleep at night. Still, I wake up and adjust it throughout the night. Luckily, I am usually able to go right back to sleep. I am using a nasal pillow. The petite size seems to fit...

Fifth Night Is A Charm

FINALLY. My SharePost is being written to show the process taken when beginning to use a breathing machine at night. It is called a CPAP. Last night was my fifth night of using the machine, and it was the first night I slept through the entire night without waking up.! (The first night I was able to sleep for some time, but it was interrupted everytime I moved.) Here is what I think made the difference: ...

Battling the CPAP

Leah here. Again. I've just spent my third night with my new CPAP and it wasn't pretty...By three a.m., I had snatched off the headgear, hoping to get a few hours of sleep before church. My problem all night was that I didn't feel like I could breathe. The nasal pillow kept moving about when I moved. Possibly I haven't gotten the straps on the headgear tight enough yet. I'm also thinking that...

Fledgling CPAP User With Dementia

It is way after midnight and I have found this site. I am struggling with a sleep disorder, severe sleep apnea or OSA. Just yesterday, I got my CPAP machine. I am using one with nasal pillows rather than a mask. This is a better choice since I am a restless sleeper who goes from side to side all night. I also am always HOT, sweating a lot. With all this, a mask would never have worked. It was a long...
