I am a 29 year old woman who has had sleep issues for as long as I can remember. When I was very young I just couldn't sleep. I think I had sleep penalizes, but I'm not sure if it was that or just really vivid dreams. When I was young my parents thought I was just trying to get out of going to bed.
when I moved out on my own I started having these episodes when I would see my mom in the corner of my eye yelling at me and I couldn't move. It kept happening, but only about seven or eight times a year. I've recently moved in with my girlfriend and they've been happening more often. In the last five months I've experienced them twice as much as I would usually experience in a year.
I try to sleep on a regular pattern, but my girlfriend is a night owl so sometimes I have to stay up late and then it happens.

Thanks so much for your post. It sounds like you are really frustrated and want to find out fast what is happening.
Though I am not a trained medical professional (I'm one of the site moderators), I suggest that you speak with your doctor - general or internal medicine for a start. They can help you get to the right specialist who can really focus on the specifics of your symptoms.
In the meantime, we have lots of information for you to read that could maybe help you while working with your doctor. You can read through the Understanding Sleep Disorders and maybe specifically the Understanding Insomnia section. There is also important content on how to treat your disorderand even what to do if you are indeed diagnosed with insomnia.
I'll look at those sights for information, but unfortunately I can't go see a doctor. I don't have health insurance to pay for it, and I can't afford to pay out of pocket. My family thinks I'm making it up so they won't help. I'll look over the sights you gave me and see what is in them. They may have the answer I need.
