I Panic to remain awake in the half conscious state when I start falling into sleep

Why at the point my body takes over to move me into sleep I sometimes fight to stay awake as i sense loosing control of my muscles as they're twitching as I take breaths and fight to keep consciousness all when Im in a half conscious state just before I go into sleep mode. vivid dreams, puffy,sore eyes

My daughter, who is 21, has vivid dreams when she sleeps. When she wakes up she feels like she hasnt even slept because her dreams are so real. Her eyes are puffy and they hurt.
