Hi zohra,

I am so sorry to hear that because green leafy vegetables are so often a part of a healthy diet.

I am also sorry to say I do not really know. I have not heard of warfarin. However, I have a similar problem. I cannot eat grapefruit because I take Tegritol, and that just seems silly. Grapefruit is also commonly part of a healthy diet, and the warning does not include oranges, lemons, or any other citrus fruit. Why not grapefruit?

Grapefruit, one of my favorite foods, is the most citrusy of the citrus fruits. It is important because grape increases the medicine's effects. It is the same as increasing the dose. This is not a good idea.

I recommend you read the insert that comes with your medication. Green leafy vegetables because they contain vitamin K and may cause clotting. Check with your doctor or pharmacist. They can tell you for sure.

Green leafy vegetables contain Vitamin K, which counteracts the effects of warfarin.  In my job we use warfarin for the prevention of blood clots following joint replacement surgery so we do not ask patients to stop eating these vegetables but we do ask them to stay consistent on how much they consume each day.  If warfarin is prescribed for other reasons such as atrial fibrilation the recommendation may be different.
