Q: what is causing me not to sleep?

I was diagnosed with bipolar back many years ago but never had a sleep problem like this before.  I am not manic either.  It happened when the psychiatrist took me off cold turkey of seroquel and put me on geodan.  I had been on seroquel for a year.  I did not taper off of seroquel either.  I took 40mgs. of geodan and I even took 12.5mgs. of ambien cr and still didn't get any sleep now for almost a week.   I feel pressure like in and around my brain and my eyes are really dry.  I have stopped the geodan on my own and resumed back to the seroquel hoping this would solve the problem but nope..........it is still a problem.  Could perhaps the psyche taking me off of seroquel "cold turkey" may of caused a jolt to the brain?  I am afraid that I am going to lose my mind not getting no sleep.  My psychiatrist I cannot ever get ahold of and it is almost impossible to get a return call from his nurse.  I can't find another pdoc that takes medicaid either.  I think I am experiencing alot of stress and possibly depression.  What can I do to get asleep.  I am now on 400mgs.of seroquel at night.

Thanks so much for posting your question.  It sounds really important that you find a doctor or clinic - maybe an urgent care center - that can help you resolve this issue.  It is possible that the medications you are taking - or had been taking - caused this insomnia.  But it could be something unrelated to the medications.

In the meantime, you may want to read our material about insomnia.  As well, the insomnia drug information we have could help prepare you for questions to a doctor.

Finally, You amy want to take a look at our anxiety information at AnxietyConnection.com

Hope this helps and all the best, sue (moderator)
