taking 60mg a day of strattera with an anti depressant and a sleeping pill dangerous or effective
Hi Deanna,
Since you're asking this question, I'm wondering if more than one physician prescribed you the three medications? If that is true, you should discuss what you are taking with one physcian, preferably a psychiatrist (since this is their area of expertise) so that you will avoid problems with drug interactions.
Strattera is a type of antidepressant, so ask your psychiatrist why you were prescribed two antidepressants....you have the right to know and understand why you are being prescribed the drugs that you are!
While there are some free programs to check for drug interactions, the use of these tools should never subsitute for discussions with your doctor or pharmacist.
I am not a physician and I also do not know specifically what you are taking, but you should definitely ask if the sleeping pill is o.k. to take with the antidepressant(s). It may make a difference as to whether you are taking an over the counter sleeping aid versus something prescribed (the ingredients are different) and what class of antidepressant you are taking. Your pharmacist is also another good person to ask about this.
Best Wishes,
Dr. Jennifer Fee

Hi Deanna - You really do need to speak with all involved on the dangesr vs the effectiveness of your medications. I also think you should be able to speak to your pharmacisit and he/she can flag you if there are possible interactions.
I'm not sure of the anti depressant you are taking or the sleep aid. Try linking on the links to see if we list those you have been prescribed.
As well, Strattera is also used as a medication for ADHD - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. So it is possible that your doctor (if it in fact is only one doctor prescribing all three) does believe these three meds can support your issues effectively. You can review the Precautions and Side Effects and the Drug Interactions of this drug.
However if you are having any concerns, or physical or emotional side effects, you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Good communication is crucial in maintaining a patient doctor relationship.
Hope this helps and all the best, sue (moderator)
