what is the medical explination of night terrors?

Ashley

Night terrors are referred to as different things as far as medically and looking at it in other perspectives. i have also heard it called Astral Catelepsy. Their explination of that is more of a spiritual nature. I am writing a paper on this disorder, and coinsodentaly suffer from this myself. Night Terrors are commonly known to also be realted to sleep apnea. ( cant move, scream, breathel; feels like someone is sitting on your chest;cant wake up) I was just wondering if anybody had any answers to my questions, and can tell me what if anything medically caused 'night terrors'.

Hi Ashley:

You might want to read more about sleep in my SharePost, "To Sleep, Perchance To Dream."

I explain the stages of sleep, including the fact that sleep paralysis is a normal condition of the REM stage, and is designed to protect you from jumping out of bed when dreaming.

Night terrors can be associated with sleep apnea but are more often associated with trauma, and are treatable. You should speak with your psychiatrist about finding help for this.

Best of luck,

Dr. Diana Walcutt
