what is the chemical makeup in Provigil that works in addition to anitidepressants for deppresion
from: barbara schreiber
My GP doesn't understand why my psychiatrist is treating my depression (formerly major) with Provigil in addition to antidepressants. What information can I obtain for my GP with regard to this situation?
Frankly - I don't get it either. Provigil's indications are for:
To improve wakefulness in adult patients with excessive sleepiness associated with narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome, and shift work sleep disorder.
It's also being called a 'smart drug' because when people take it - it can confer incredible "sharpness' so for someone studying for many hrs, it can help you to focus and retain information.
You need your psychiatrist to specifically indicate why he's giving you this drug and ask for references to studies that show it's benefits for depression.
