in his sleep my husband has been pinning me by the neck to the mattress. This very scary.

This is not the first time.  At other times he will hit me but there is a pillow in between so it absorbs some of the punch. Sometimes I sleep soundly and would not notice but lately my sleep is light.  He takes no medication and does not drink alcohol

Dear Greeneyes, Thanks for your posted question.  There could be many reasons this is happening.  It sounds like you shoudl consult a physician before anything escalates further.  There are a couple of articles that refer to sleep and violence that you maigh tbe interested in reading.  But do find a doctor who can help diagnose and then treat your husband.

rapid eye movement behavioral disorder

sex while sleeping

violent sleepwalkers (news)
