Q: I AM AN ULTRASONOGRAPHER THAT MUST TAKE 61 CONTINUOUS HOURS OF ON CALL AND THEN WORK 40 HRS/WEEK.

DURING THE WEEK I HAVE TO COVER AT LEAST 2 24HRS OF ON CALL.  THE ENTIRE CAT SCAN DEPT. , THE ULTRASOUND DEPT. AND THE INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY DEPT. HAVE THE SAME SCHEDULE. AT TIMES A TECHNOLOGIST WILL BE REQUIRED TO COVER 5 24HR CONTINUOUS ON CALL DAYS. CAN YOU IMAGINE ONE OF THESE SLEEP DEPRIVED TECHNOLOGIST PERFORMING A LIVER - RENAL-THYROID-BREAST BIOPSY. EVEN PERFORMING THE MOST BENIGN EXAM???  IS THERE ANY RECOURSE FOR THIS OBVIOUSLY BARBARIC WORK SCHEDULE?  IS THE MANAGEMENT LIABLE FOR ANY MEDICAL MISTAKES THAT ARE CERTAINLY GOING TO HAPPEN? ARE THEY LIABLE FOR ANY DETRIMENT TO THE HEALTH OF THE TECHNOLGIST? DO YOU KNOW ANY GOOD LAWYERS THAT ARE DEDICATED TO PREVENTING THIS TYPE OF WORK SCHEDULE?? I KNOW THAT NURESES, INTERNS AND TRUCK DRIVERS HAVE MANAGED TO PREVENT SCHEDULES THAT LEAD TO SLEEP DEPRIVATION  -- ANY HELP YOU CAN MUSTER WILL BE VERY APPRECIATED      --- DANO
