why does my son make a sound like hes sobbing in hes sleep

my son is 8 months old and when he is asleep sounds like he is sobbing like he has been crying for a long time (even though he has not) this has been happening since birth but not always every night. is this normal ?

Though it does not happen all the time, I would discuss it with your pediatrician.  I would just want to make sure that it is not a variable of apnea, asthma, any kind of respiratory constriction, adenoid problem (in the nose).  It may just be that your child is a vocal sleeper but with babies You always want to make sure - I might actually video tape it making sure to capture the sound especially and then play it for your pediatrician.
