I sleep with my mouth open because I can't breathe through my nose. Do I have sleep apnea?
I can breathe through my nose fine during the day, but it plugs when I lie down at night making it difficult to breathe through my nose. My wife tells me I don't snore and she has never caught me gasping for air while sleeping (though she says I sometimes make funny noises breathing). I usually get 7 hours of sleep, but most always feel significant levels of fatigue throughout the day. Could I have sleep apnea even though I don't snore? Possibly another medical condition?
If you are concerned about sleep apnea, talk to your doctor about a referal to a sleep specialist. However, an inability to breathe through the nose at night isn't a symptom of sleep apnea. This could be caused by an allergy or sinus problems. I would advise you to talk to your doctor about it.
