Hello reddeviless.

The most common reasons that generally cause oversleeping are often lifestyle factors. Does your son work night shifts? Is he taking any prescribed or non-prescribed medications on a regular basis? Does he suffer from depression or any other mood disorders? Stress, diet, exercise as well as caffeine and alcohol consumption are all possible factors that can trigger atypical sleep patterns. Are you aware of any illicit substance abuse, such as amphetamines, cannabis, hallucinogens?

If you are concerned that your son is suffering from a neurological sleep disorder, it is critical that you seek local medical advice and guidance, especially if he suffers the following:

 * Any abnormal patterns or physical indicators within his sleep cycle

 * Frequent gaps in breathing

 * Gasping or choking

 * Loud snoring

 * Restless legs during sleep

Is there any genetic disposition to sleep disorders within your son's maternal / paternal line?

How long has he overslept and experienced difficulty waking?

When did your son last have a full blood count / test? It's imperative to be able to rule out any physiological or biochemical indicators, mineral deficiencies, organ function etc. which could all be possible reasons for your son's oversleeping.

Regards,

Gary
