Q: is trazodone used to treat panic attacks

Hi and thanks so much for your question.  In addition to the info from our expert, I thought you might want to review our facts on trazodone:

 

This medication is used to treat depression. Trazodone works by helping to restore the balance of a certain natural chemical (serotonin) in the brain.

I've never had a client prescribed Trazodone for the purpose of treating panic attacks, however, according to this information, it can be used for "relief from anxiety disorders (e.g. sleeplessness, tension)."  I have had a number of clients who were prescribed Trazodone for sleep problems.
