Q: how concerned would you be with taking 20 mg Adderall XR along with Pristiq (new SSRI)?

I have been on Pristiq for a few months (for Depression) and started Adderall XR 20mg today for EDS assoc. with Narcolepsy. I found risks re:serotonin syndrome but really need both meds if possible. I am also on 5 other meds that sont seem to cause neg. interacction. Please let me know any thoughts you may have. Thanks so much!

First of all - since you don't mention the other 5 drugs - I don't know if those 5 go through te cytochrome P450 pathway in the liver - which would affect how you get dosed for each drug - based on how many are metabolized through this pathway.

Did the same doctor prescribe both drugs to you? Were you specifically diagnosed with narcolepsy?? Because EDS can be a separate diagnosis from narcolepsy - an orexin deficiency.

My impression is that you need one doctor who is "team captain" so to speak for all your drugs and he can talk to the other prescribing doctors so everyone is on the same page with (a) choices of drugs being given to the same patient (B) dosages of drugs based on their metabolic pathways and side effects.

The doctor I spoke with did question the "smarts" of combining use of Pristiq and Adderall in the same patient.

I actually have been searching the internet trying to find the same answer. I was just priscribe 30 mg of Adderall XR and Pristiq 50 mg. I haven't been able to find someone who has taken both of these before. I started the Adderall 2 days ago and I was supposed to start the Pristiq but I haven't yet. How are these working for you? I know the Addreall really kept me wake and I really felt alert. BUt, I was still wide wake at 3am and woke up at 7am ready to go. That is very unusual for me. But, to not be tired during the day was amazing. I just am worried about the side effects. I haven't been hungery at all. And I know both have that side effect. I'm rambling. BUt, how are these meds working/effecting you??

I've been taking 30mg Adderall with Cymbalta and the Adderall seems to be really helping. I'm considering trying the Pristiq instead of Cymbalta. I would appreciate any input. Thank you, Gene

I've been on 30mg of Adderall XR and 50mg of Pristiq AT NIGHT. That's the best combo I've ever tried, and I've tried every combo of everything under the sun. If I take the Pristiq in the morning, it makes me too lethargic and renders the Adderall less effective. Taking it at night gives me a full night of uninterupted slumber, I wake up with tons of energy, and the Adderall is able to perform as it's supposed to. Being, being an SNRI vs an SSRI, the norpenephrine component of Pristiq helps to soften the "come down" of the Adderall...little to no mood swings. I hope this helps.
