He would use it in the beginning. He stops breathing about 8 time an hour. We were just up for another sleep test in January. He is about 5ft 8in. and weighs about 190lb.

I would suggest that he try the least invasive interface he can, like Opus or Swift LT and if he has nasal tenderness, there are things on the market that will help that. Ayre Gel and even KY Jelly will help with the soreness. He should not use any petroleum based product because it will cause breakdown of the nasal pillows.
There are great support groups online, and even some groups that use CPAP to help support his concerns that he is all alone. Cpaptalk.com and SleepGuide are 2 that are good.
I am in the business of helping people be more comfortable with their CPAP interface and therefore remain compliant. If you want to see what I can do to help you can google padacheek.com
I hope this helps you to help him. By being diagnosed so early, and getting the proper treatment, he will be avoiding some serious damage to his future health.
At 16 they do think they are invincible. If he wants to email me thru my website, I will make him a pair of my pads for free to get him started on his treatment.
Express the problems a CPAP helps--tiredness, keeps from heart attack, stroke and enlarged heart; helps with not developing Diabetes 2; even helps with obesity. I can't imagine not using mine as I became non-functional before I was diagnosed. It makes a huge difference in being able to do the things a teenager should want to do. It's such an easy thing to do and makes you feel so much better.
If it's uncomfortable he may need different face mask/nasal pillows. Also it takes about 1 month to get used to it.
Hope some of this helps
