My partner is a 58 year old male.  He suffers from sleep apnea and as often as he can, sleeps with his machine, but because he also has asthma, it is difficult for him to use the machine every night because he feels congested. Sometimes he wakes up in the morning covered in sweat...almost like night sweats when I was going through menopause. Is it male menopause or could it be a syptom of something more serious?  Thank you.

I have been told that your thyroid gland if not properly functioning can be the reason. Hope that is helpful.

Not to scare you... but to be on the safe side, I would tell him to get a complete physical.  This may sound crazy but my mom was just diagnosed with lung cancer (age 54) and her doctor asked her if she has been having "night sweats"... and she had been for a least a yr.  He shocked us all when he said that "night sweats" is your body's first sign of cancer!  Again, don't let this worry you... I just felt compelled to share my story.  The best of luck to you both.

Night sweats is a "broad ie generic" indicator, that could be indicative of numerous conditions, besides cancer, or thyroid trouble, for instance in women, it could just be hormonal, in others signs of infection, in others perhaps psycological trouble...yedda yedda yedda...bottom line is that instead of "guessing...let your physician do lab work and try and pin point the problem it could turn out to be nothing to worry about....
