How can I fall asleep quicker?

I have PLMD as a symptoms of a progressive neurologic disorder. Requip helps calm my movements some. But in recent months, I have trouble shifting into actual sleep. I am under considerable stress each day, but do not spend time at night worrying or thinking about my problems. I am in a hazy state and have brief dreamlike images for hours before actually nodding off. I gradually feel drowsier; but can't flip the switch. Then I awaken within 5 five hours and am not drowsy enough to fall back to sleep. A nap during the day is difficult for the same reasons. I am running on fumes; but I am more mentally exhausted than sleepy during the day. I am taking no medicines that would keep me from sleeping and do not drink coffee. This scenario doesn't seem to fit any sleep disorder I know of.

Thanks for your question.  It does seem that you might be describing a kind of Insomnia.  It is not clear what type, but you may want to review our information on this sleep disorder.  As well the treatment information might be helpful.  And don't forget to seek an evaluation by your physician to rule out non-sleep related issues which could be of concern.

All the best, sue
