Sleeping helps men and women stay slim

We learned that getting more sleep will make you less hungry during the day, but for different reasons for men and women.
For the study, researchers tracked the sleep patterns of 27 normal weight 30- to 45-year-old men and women and analyzed their blood draws after a night of short sleep (4 hours) and habitual sleep (9 hours).
The results showed that after a short night of sleep, there was a spike in the hormone ghrelin, which causes the body to feel hungry, in men but not in women.
Women, on the other hand, showed a decrease in the hormone GLP-1 after a short night’s sleep, which is a hormone that make the body feel full, but men did not have the same drop.
This is all to say, lack of sleep will cause both men and women to eat more during the day: men will do so because they feel hungry, and women will do so because they don’t feel full.
