Getting as little as 10 minutes of brisk exercise triggers metabolism changes that can last at least an hour, researchers say. And those who were already the most fit appeared to have the greatest benefit--marathon runners had almost 10 times as much of a healthy metabolite in their blood as sedentary people who suffered shortness of breath. Experts say a new field of study called metabolomics is trying to determine why and how exercise affects people differently.
